SecuraPets Introduces a Safer, Easier Way to Find Lost Pets

New A-GPS locator attaches to collar sending text and email alerts if a pet leaves home

According to the ASPCA, about 5 to 7 million companion animals enter shelters every year. But, the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy states that less than 2 percent of cats and only 15 to 20 percent of dogs are returned to their owners. The majority of these pets were found with tags, a tattoo or microchip, but these technologies are outdated and not always effective in helping you prevent the loss of your pet.

SecuraTrac is introducing a new pet locating technology called SecuraPAL (Pet Automated Locator) that can send you a text message and email if your pet escapes your yard. The SecuraPets solution consists of a small, lightweight GPS device that attaches to your pet’s collar and an interactive web platform that allows you to monitor your account and pet’s location from your smartphone or computer.

A key feature of SecuraPAL is its ability to report when it leaves boundaries you set called SecuraFences. If your cat or dog leaves your yard, the dog park, a boarding facility or any other location that you designate with a SecuraFence, you receive a location alert with the pet’s current location every 30 seconds.

“The Pet Automated Locator gives pet owners the peace of mind that they can always know where their furry family members are,” said SecuraTrac CEO Chris Holbert. “With the SecuraPets solution you don’t have to worry about correcting address information or your phone number on a tattoo or microchip, health concerns from the chip or that it could take days or weeks to find your pet at a shelter.”

SecuraPAL can be purchased for $157.78 and has a service fee of $6.99 per month that includes 50 location requests. Additional requests are three cents per location request. For more information visit www.SecuraPets.com.

PHOENIX - SecuraChild.com is a new, free website that helps find missing people through the use of social media.

Sandra Traylor’s 13-year-old nephew, Myron Traylor, went missing 23 years ago. He was walking to his grandma’s house from a store, near 16th and Southern avenues, in Phoenix. Traylor thinks he was kidnapped. Although there’s been no sign of him since, she hasn’t given up hope.

“Keep going, keep praying,” she said. Traylor’s family is still searching. Every two years, she hangs a painted mural of Myron in front of her home in Phoenix. Her kids post a photo of what Myron would look like in his 30s on Facebook. “You never know, you never know,” she said.

SecuraChild.com is a new, free website that helps search for missing people through the use of social media. It was built on the hope of bringing families back together with lost loved ones, according to Chris Holbert, CEO of SecuraTrac, a for-profit organization that launched SecuraChild.

“People refer to it as Amber Alert on steroids,” Holbert said. SecuraChild allows users to keep track of a family member’s information. You can include a person’s height, weight, eye color and recent photos on file. If that person were lost, one click would disseminate this information to SecuraChild’s Twitter, Facebook, phone, and email contacts. SecuraChild doesn’t contact the police, but keeps important information in one place. Holbert says filing a police report is encouraged and SecuraChild makes it easier for the user to file a report. “There’s a lot of info you have to give police to file a police report,” Holbert said.

Traylor says parents should keep their child’s information handy. She has her children’s fingerprints and footprints in her records. “Just in case,” she said. “You never know.”

This Week in Consumer Electronics (TWICE) Talks LifeTrac

By Joseph Palenchar

Hermosa Beach, Calif. - SecuraTrac, a provider of personal GPS tracking devices for kids and pets, has developed a personal GPS tracking device for senior citizens.

MobileProtector

SecuraTrac’s MobileProtector features GPS tracking, speed and inactivity sensing, and a cellphone to get help in emergencies.

The $187 2.5-ounce MobileProtector incorporates a cellphone, assisted-GPS, pre-programmed 911 button, and three other programmable speed-dial buttons. The preprogrammed buttons enable seniors to call emergency personnel, doctors or family in an emergency.

The wearable device also delivers speed and inactivity alerts via text message, email or web to caregivers. Speed alerts can be programmed to alert family members when the user is driving at a speed exceeding a preset level. The device also alerts caregivers if a user with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease crosses virtual borders set up through a secure online account.

Unlike senior-citizen personal-safety devices that work only when the wearer is near a home phone, said SecuraTrac CEO Chris Holbert, “LifeTrac is the only solution available on the market today that seniors can carry with them in the house and around town and know they can contact family, friends or physicians with the push of one button in an emergency. “The device works in cellular networks in more than 120 countries,” he added.

The company called MobileProtector the first personal GPS locator to incorporate cellular-based assisted-GPS technology to help locate users in areas where GPS satellite signals are weak or blocked. Assisted GPS also accelerates the time to first fix (TTFF), or the time it takes for the device to determine its GPS location after being turned on.

Service plans start at $47.99 per month.

The device is available on SecuraTrac’s website (www.securatrac.com), and the company is working on distribution through major wireless retailers.

The company’s SecuraPAL Guardian solution is designed for children, seniors, and pets and uses A-GPS to improve positioning.
